Belkyra, a revolutionary new treatment that was first promoted by Khloe Kardashian, is one that has grown in popularity in Australia in recent years. Belkyra is produced by Allergan, which is the same company that produces Botox.
Plainly put, Belkyra helps dissolve unwanted pockets of fat around the neck and chin area. Men and women who are tired of having a double chin that they simply can’t get rid of are using Belkyra to improve their profiles.
Chin sculpting has become a standard procedure at cosmetic clinics across the country and if you’re considering Belkyra yourself, this is what you need to know.
Chin sculpting explained
Chin sculpting is the process of using injectable treatments that contain prescription medication to remove excess fat from the chin and neck area.
Once injected, synthesised deoxycholic acid will break down stubborn fat cells, which the body will then absorb and excrete. The deoxycholic acid that is present in Belkyra injections is a compound that’s found naturally in the body.
What to expect during your Belkyra session
MIRA Clinic is a top clinic for double chin removal (Belkyra) and before each treatment is administered, a topical numbing cream will be applied to the chin and neck area.
The treatment area will then be marked out so that the injections are targeted and evenly distributed. The treatment markings will be different for every patient.
An average of 20 – 40 injections will then be administered to start breaking down the fat in the chin area. Depending on the number of injections that need to be administered, your treatment can last anywhere from 15 – 40 minutes.
After your treatment, you can expect some slight redness and for the chin area to swell up a bit but this can easily be hidden with a neck scarf and will subside within a few days.
Your Belkyra results
Results will be different for every patient but all patients will experience some swelling and minor discomfort, which can be treated with over-the-counter pain medication.
Most clinics will review your results with you on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to decide whether additional treatments may be needed. Most patients can see visible results within 2 – 4 weeks. Any follow-up treatments that may be required will be spaced 1 month to 6 weeks apart.
For most patients, at least 2 Belkyra treatments will be required to achieve significant results.
This treatment has been approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration of Australia and is safe. The substance in Belkyra injections is also produced by a global manufacturer that needs to meet very strict health and safety standards.
Belkyra pricing
Belkyra treatments don’t always come cheap but they’re far less costly than liposuction or neck lift surgery. Patients can expect to pay around $1,200 per treatment but this will vary between clinics.
One benefit is that unlike Botox that required a bi-annual top-up, Belkyra only requires 1 to 2 treatments overall, with maintenance injections sometimes being required every 4 to 5 years.
